I expect to finish reading Dandelion Wine this week. After that I’ll be starting one of these books:

Have you read any of these books? Heard anything great about one? Please leave a comment with a recommendation for the next book for me to read. I’ll be taking this book with me on vacation to Iowa next week.
I only have an opinion on two of those: Slaughterhouse Five is a wonderful book, and a classic. If you don’t read it next, at least make sure you DO read it.
Timeline, on the other hand, is God-awful. It’s rare that I give up on a book once I’ve slogged through the first three chapters, but Jeezus, I just couldn’t take it any more. Of couse, your mileage may vary.
See, now I liked Timeline, but then I like Crichton’s no-detail-left-untold style. I thought the lead-in raised some interesting questions about self and once the story kicked in, I liked the depiction of the Middle Ages. And yes, the movie sucked out loud.
I know you’ll hit the Vonnegut, but Slaughterhouse Five feels more like a wintertime read. Short stories are good for trips, so Oblivion’s an option. Metal Cowboy would fit that bill too and sounds like it would be a good one for a summer flight.
I’m with you all the way on short stories and trips, Rob.
